Medway Volunteer Workshop in Kent is a local initiative to help a national charity, Tools with a Mission, headquartered in Ipswich

About Us

Medway Volunteer Workshop (charity registration number 1205002) works with Tools with a Mission who collect unwanted hand and powered tools, computers and sewing machines across Kent and the rest of the UK.  These are refurbished and compiled into trade kits, which are sent to Africa to equip people who have recently completed training schemes so they can earn a sustainable living.

Our Kent workshop refurbishes carpentry tools and sewing machines and makes up kits for plumbers for Tools with a Mission who send around 20 containers to Africa every year, each filled with over 10 tonnes of tools.
   To do this we need:
  • Volunteers at our Chatham workshop
  • Your unwanted tools and sewing machines
  • Funds to pay our modest overheads
Benefits:
  • Re-using unwanted hand and power tools, computers and sewing machines to provide recently qualified trainees in Africa with the equipment necessary to start their own sustainable enterprise, providing a livelihood for themselves and their families - and in some cases, eventually employing others too.
Check out the Tools with a Mission country website to read inspiring stories of lives transformed through tools.
  • Giving local people in Medway and Kent, often retired, with time on their hands, the opportunity to put it to productive use helping others - and to also make new friends amongst like-minded people at Medway Volunteer Workshop.
  • Caring for our environment by recycling unwanted items.  Tools with a Mission have saved thousands of tonnes of tools and sewing machines from landfill.
